Aluminium Stortz couplings are available in a large
range confusing of sizes and options, the information below is provided to be of
assistance when selecting our stortz couplings.
Stortz system couplings are a quick connect coupling that have an internal lug
system. They require only a one third turn for full connection. They
are Hermaphrodite, or in other words they do not have a separate male and female
type, one coupling is both male and female. Standard models are made
from superior forged aluminium alloy AIMgSi. The larger stortz couplings
are made from Cast Alloy due to their size and smaller production runs.
Brass is also available where Aluminium is inappropriate, such as some mining
ops etc and these are available from 75mm and below.
Feature Benefits:
The honest truth is stortz couplings have their good points and bad
points. Generally we recommend stortz coupling for the larger hose lines,
or suction lines above 63mm. The reason why we do not have smaller stortz
on our favourites list is because the smaller sizes have very narrow
"water" ways, and hence reduce fluid flow and increase pressure loss
across a hose lay. As an example a stortz for 38mm hose will have a narrow
water way of 28mm and that's a massive 26.32% drop in size, so when pumping
pressure is at a premium and you use 25, 38, 63mm hand lines, stortz may not be
your answer. If you want to have a less restricted water way for hoses at
or below 63mm click here for some
alternatives.
Coupling or Face Seals for Stortz:
There are three types of face seals. They are Delivery or
Suction/Delivery, commonly known as D or SD seals respectively.
. All of the seals are made from Perbunan a synthetic material suitable
for general purpose uses. If you have a specific chemical you want to run
through the coupling, call us and we will help out with more information.
Stortz Sizing Guide
Because stortz sizing can be very complex we have provided a guide click
here on how to calculate what size you have or need. Once you have
worked out the size you need compare to option lists below and order using part
number.
